PhotoVoice’s Statement of Ethical Practice
PhotoVoice projects take place within contexts where multiple inequalities exist. For this reason PhotoVoice believes that an ethical, responsible and self aware approach to practice is essential to ensure the best interests of project participants are upheld. The concern is that if issues of responsible and ethical practice are not given due consideration projects can fail and may end up having a limited or even negative impact.
For this reason PhotoVoice has created a Statement of Ethical Practice that discusses some of the ethical issues that we have seen arise repeatedly across projects. The document aims to highlight and raise awareness of some of the potential ethical issues in participatory photography work and generate debate and dialogue around issues and standards of responsible practice in the field.
