Change the Picture
Storytelling and writing are frequently used by women to “process” some of their experiences and emotions about their lives. During the workshops we worked with poetry, popular songs and the womens own stories as inspirations for the photography.
The ritual of writing/telling and reading their stories to the group became one of the core elements of the project, capturing the overwhelming need many of the women expressed to “tell it how it is”, “to get it out of their system”.
In the final few months they were also joined by a poet Betsy de Lotbiniere who worked with the women to develop their poetry and creative writing.
