Jane on How We See It
This project really changed the way that I perceived young people too. I thought that I wasn’t biased against young people and then realised that I too would get scared seeing groups of young people around Hackney. I think the real crime is that society is failing so many young people. They just need a break, and Fairbridge gives them that.
Jane on media representations of young people.
It’s really biased! Coverage of young people seems to focus on hoodie-wearing, knife-carrying, gun-toting, gang-banging, skunk-smoking and binge-drinking. It does no good for anyone – the young people who are being demonised, and the people who see it and think they’re not safe on the streets anymore.
