The Photographers
Project at work images coming soon
In March, PhotoVoice began a new collaboration with Save the Children UK, working as part of the Young Lives Project. Venetia Dearden travelled to Addis to train two local photographers and six children living on the outskirts of the city in PhotoVoice methodology. Through the workshops the children documented the lives of their families and communities and produced photographs to accompany the research being carried out by SCF in the area.
In 2008 PhotoVoice and Young Lives partnered again to build on the first phase of the proejct. The aim behind this second phase was to use photography, children’s portrayal and description of their images and the ensuing discussions around their photos as a basis for capturing children’s perceptions on health issues and
related services, and for learning how children relate these issues to
their daily lives. This information will then be used to add children’s
voices to and validate the Young Lives research further.
Young Lives is an innovative longitudinal study of childhood poverty in Ethiopia, India
(Andhra Pradesh State), Peru and Vietnam. Between 2002 and 2015, some 2000 children
in each country are being tracked and surveyed at 3-4 year intervals from when they are 1
until 14 years of age
