The Kashmir Seasons Project
The Kashmir Seasons Project was commissioned as part of a psycho-social program for Diakonie/Support to Life. Picture People decided to make a calendar with 150 children in earthquake affected Kashmir. The obvious reason for this is that Kashmir is one of the most naturally beautiful places on earth, and the people who live there have a peaceful existence amongst mountains, forests and streams. The earthquake shattered all that, but as with all disasters, life quickly gets back together. Especially for the lives of the little ones. Picture People decided to work just with the kids, as they were the only ones who can get up and down those mountains without worry. But we also wanted to give them an extra cirricular lesson in the fragility of nature. This project is not just about making photos of the spring, the summer, the autumn and winter. Its about how nature can absolute devastate if we don't take care of what we have. Its a difficult thing to explain to the kids in Kashmir, and though they found that amusing, they will for sure smile big smiles, when their beautiful calendar has been made in April 2007.
