Camphill Communities provide work and homes for people with special needs. The advocacy project supports people who want to live in Camphill and their families. We enable people to come together through conferences and to have an added voice.

Both digital and single use cameras have been used to build links and participation. The photographers are an important element in getting together and stimulating dialogue.

At the conferences, the photographs are digitally projected so that up to 60 people can comment on and discuss different aspects of their lives and work.

- Photographs are used to build communication and understanding about rights and choices.

- Individuals are empowered to challenge social services when their preferences and needs are not taken into account.

- In Scotland, PhotoVoice is providing a way for people to challenge road building proposals which threaten their community.

The 'Voices' Newsletter helps people to keep in touch and share their stories and concerns visually. 'Speaking with pictures makes it easier for everyone to understand'

There are currently 2 part-time advocacy workers and there are local opportunities for volunteers to assist in developing PhotoVoice projects and self-advocacy activities.
