AjA-Shooting Cameras for Peace, Colombia (PP)
Project manager: The AjA Project, San Diego, California, USA
Photography by refugee and underprivileged youth in Colombia
The AjA Project is based in San Diego and currently operates and supports three programs and one travelling exhibition. The programs include Journey in San Diego, Record of Truth in Thailand and Disparando Cámaras para la Paz
Disparando Cámaras para la Paz, the AjA Project's participatory photography program outside of Bogotá, Colombia, gives internally displaced children an opportunity not only to reflect on their tumultuous lives but also to develop skills that will enable them to become protagonists rather than victims. Guidance is provided by a nine person staff of Colombian photographers, educators and academics.

"In Pines they've killed lots of people, they've raped girls. For example last year they tortured a man. They cut him in half and left him naked. They've found girls dead there. Sometimes they rape girls and kill them afterwards and leave them there until they are found, that's why I took this photo."
