Ian Berry: South Africa

Renowned for his work which helped draw the world's gaze upon South Africa's apartheid regime, Ian Berry offers a gripping insight into his path to photojournalism and his significant coverage of a changing South Africa.

TICKETS WILL BE AVAILABLE TO BUY ON THE DOOR FROM 6PM THIS EVENING

Ian Berry was born in Lancashire, England. He was the only photographer to document the massacre at Sharpeville, and his photographs were used in the trial proving the victims’ innocence. Henri Cartier-Bresson invited Ian to join Magnum in 1962, when he was based in Paris. He moved to London in 1964 to become the first contract photographer for the Observer Magazine. Assignments have taken him around the world.

Ian will be signing copies of his book Living Apart.  Many thanks to Trolley Books and Phaidon Press Ltd who have generously offered to donate 30% of all money raised from book sales to PhotoVoice.

The Lecture will be accompanied by an exhibition of images taken by township youth infected with or affected by HIV/Aids, trained in photojournalism skills by PhotoVoice.
