UK based Jamaican heritage artists and DJ’s are coming together to support the Wee Fi Life charity by performing at a blistering BBQ and Dance fundraiser. An early evening BBQ will be held in Cargo’s chilled yard space with hammocks and outdoor seating followed by a rousing session featuring Tippa Irie, Ricky Rankin and Trevor Sax alongside new generation acts Jimmy Screech, Michie One, Connie Bell and DJ Turnamuffin.
Revellers will be treated not only to this sublime show but will receive FREE RUM COCKTAILS courtesy of quality Jamaican brand Wray & Nephews and CD/Vinyl album giveaways courtesy of VP and Blue Mountain Record labels.
Wee Fi Life is a piece of graffiti on a wall in Arnette Gardens, a ghetto district of Kingston, that simply means ‘We Love Life’. Inspired by this spirit Wee Fi Life is an organisation dedicated to providing an alternative to gang life, drugs and crime for underprivileged downtown Kingston youths. Through an intensive programme Kingston youths from downtown communities will be brought together to acquire journalism, photojournalism, production and new media skills, learn how to use professional equipment, make new friends and develop pride in their stigmatised communities.
At the end of the course the students will produce a magazine in conjunction with South London Youth magazine Live, have work featured in a variety of publications in both the UK and Jamaica and take up work experience placements.
